UI&U Master of EducationOur MissionThe mission of the UI&U Master of Education program is to foster the development of educational leaders who make meaningful, positive change within their communities, and who are committed to life-long inquiry. Related to this mission, the goals of the Union Institute & University are to prepare knowledgeable, thoughtful, and effective teachers, counselors, and administrators; to enliven, challenge, and strengthen practicing educators; to promote the development of educators who are leaders, inquirers, and reformers; to generate knowledge; and through all of these goals, to improve schools and communities. Program OverviewThe Master of Education Program is a 36-48 credit brief residency program focused on meeting unique needs of adult learners, including preparation for certification or licensure in teaching, administration, or counseling. Individualized plans of study, created by learners in consultation with faculty advisors, respond to the mission of the university, which is founded on ethics and social justice. Residencies provide the opportunity to connect with peers, faculty, and inspiring presenters from the field, and to be part of a unique learning community which supports, challenges, and enhances the learning process.
