- Please write an intellectual autobiography sharing an account of your thinking over the last ten years regarding issues in education, especially those issues that touch one’s career and also ways that point to the need for social justice in education from pre-k through post-secondary levels. The essay should be five (5) pages, and should include at least three (3) key readings (books and journal articles) that helped develop your thinking. Applicants must use the APA Style Manual (5th ed.) for formatting citations and references.
We would consider this essay to be an example of your best academic writing and thinking. We are looking for the following attributes in your reflective essay:
- A proficient introduction that states the education issues you will be discussing
- Clear thesis with arguable statement of position
- Essay is well searched, with at least 3 readings from professional and scholarly sources

Transferring Credits
Up to 12 semester hour credits (the equivalent of four (4) doctoral level courses) from a regionally accredited university are eligible to be reviewed by an admissions committee for approval of transfer. The transfer courses must have been completed in the past five (5) years with an equivalent grade of “B” or above. Courses applied toward an earned master’s degree are not eligible to be reviewed for transfer. Read the full Ed.D. Transfer Credit Policy
International Learners
Thank you for your interest in our programs. We regret that, at this time, we are not able to admit international learners to programs that require attendance at a residency or colloquium held within the U.S. Many changes have been implemented in immigration policies in the United States within the past few years. The Department of Homeland Security, the agency that oversees immigration, has classified programs at Union Institute & University as “distance learning,” and schools in this category may not enroll learners on student visas. Even though you would not reside in the U.S. for the duration of your program, you do need to be able to enter the U.S. with a valid student visa to attend the required colloquium and residencies at our institution. The regulations currently restrict us from providing you with the necessary paperwork to obtain a student visa, and students engaged in full-time or part-time study may not enter the U.S. on some other status, such as a visitor.
This does not apply to our undergraduate programs, which are able to be completed entirely at a distance.
Thank you for your understanding.
